Talk to your doctor. There are a number of other things you can do for congestion. My congestion is part of my allergic response and I am doing allergy shots right now, and that really helps keep everything under control. My allergist just gave me Atrovent, which decongests me fairly well. I’ve also used Flonase, a fairly new nasal steroid, but there are quite a number of them. If it is an occasional thing you can try Otrivin, which while OTC, I usually have to ask at the counter for it. It is more effective for me than Afrin or things like that, but you can get symptom bounce back from them that can "addict" you to them. After a few days I start tapering off them til I am OK again. And I usually use 1/2 the normal dose as it seems to be less problematic for me. If the congestion is from allergic problems you might want to try Nasalcrom which is also OTC. It calms down the immune cells in the nose so they don’t react. FWIW the 4 hour Sudafeds can do a number on my heart rate, but if I take the 12 hour or 24 hour extend tabs I don’t have that problem. I think it has to do with the peak blood concentration being lower. Does anyone have Lotronex you’re not going to take that you would like to sell? Linda S

Linda, Did you get anyone had any Lotronex left to sell . I did not see your post til mine. I have had no response. Lotonex was literally a complete cure for me. If I find a supply ( supplier) I would be happy to share for I feel they unfairly took it off the market ( my GI is one of the top in the US, and he was dissapointed in the FDA’s shaky linkeages to problems with the med. I hope you are faring well ,… I am down to my last two tablets ( started taking them once a day to conserve) Mike – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Does anyone have Lotronex you’re not going to take that you would like to >sell? >Linda S

This is a crime that someone finds a medicine that helps them and can’t buy it…I had the same thing with TAVIST D a decongestant that the FDA just warned on (not banned) and all the stores ripped it off the shelf..Now I feel like a drug dealer wheeling and dealing to find the stuff…. Mike, Linda, & all who need Lotronex, I, too, am willing to buy any I can get. Since the FDA controls the medications in USA maybe this med can be obtained in another country such as Germany or Mexico. There should be a black market somewhere which has Lotronex. Maybe Glaxo will distribute it under a different name in another country. I can’t believe they would just take it away from people who need it so much. It’s the only drug that has helped me in over 25 years. I can’t take anti-spasmodics because I have Glaucoma so the Lotronex was a godsend. I wonder if anyone from the FDA has IBS? Sue

Unlike Lotronex, with PPA there are alternatives. Sudafed is a decongestant much like PPA and doesn’t have the same risks associated with it. Psuedoephedrine is used in a lot of the assorted OTC medications and in the prescirption antihistamine/decongestent combos. I expect that within a short period of time all the formulas that has PPA in them will be redone with psuedoephedrine. Instead of trying to find the old Tavist-D formulation, just take the Tavist plain with some Sudafed on the side. They even have Sudafed OTC that you only have to take once a day. Lotronex was so new it wasn’t released in any other countries. If you go over to www.ibsgroup.org and check though the threads you will find that there is some people over there organizing efforts to try and get Lotronex back. There is a mailing list, and info about who to send letters of protest to. Some people can get relief by taking other drugs that affect Serotonin (Lotronex is specific for serotonin receptors in the gut). Various antidepressants have been used successfully by a goodly number of people. You might want to discuss this with your doctor. There may be one that would be worth trying, that wouldn’t interact with the glacoma.
