Visual Impairment
Question:
Try something called R-Lipoic Acid. I’ve had pretty severe neuropathy, including effects on my vision, like light sensitivity, difficulty perceiving things in my field of vision. If you try it, it works quickly. I noticed a change in a few days. Note this is not the same as Alpha Lipoic Acid, which has a synthetic form of lipoic acid and natural form. The R form is only natural. My experience, it’s a whopper as far as helping.
I haven’t heard of that in helping with ION (ischemic optic neuropathy). But at this point I do not see what Judy would have to lose. This is a really bad condition with no viable treatment options. drfrank

I was recently diagnosed with bilaternal Ischemic Optic Neuropathy which has left me with a visual impairment of most of my peripheral vision. I am desperately looking for someone who can identify with what I am experiencing at this time and who can lend some understanding with how they have learned to live with their vision loss. I have searched for a group for the visually impaired but have been unsuccessful. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I am lost in my own world right now. Thank you. Judy
Sorry about your condition. There are quite a few non-profit groups dealing with blindness/loss of vision and I would inquire there (assuming there are local chapters where you live). I know there’s an alt.support-glaucoma but not sure if there are any support newsgroups for blindness. Regardless, best of luck to you. drfrank

Judy I suffered BADLY from a neuropathy called toxic amblyopia. My vision went form 20/20 and 20/30 to 20/100 and 20/200, PLUS color blindness and a bunch of other fun things. I couldn’t read or compute for THREE YEARS. Then I started taking mega doses of B1 (about 400 mg per day. In about a month my vision is now 20/30 and 20/40. I may have lost that much by just "aging" and there are some lingering deficits but thank God I can do things again. Another supplement to use, I have heard, especially to improve blood flow to the optic nerve is Bilberry. Perhaps this might be helpful. One thing: If anything DOES help you please let others know so we can spread the good news.
a combo of coffee and gingko works well for me – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Sincerely, George J. Dagis P.S. Good luck!
