vioxx & celebrex & side effects
Question:
I get short of breath when taking vioxx or celebrex. I also got short of breath when I took feldene a few years ago. The heck of it that ONLY the feldene, celebrex, and vioxx do anything to give me relief from my OA – and I can’t take them because of side effects. I’m tried all the other drugs – they either don’t work for me or give me GI upset. Comments? Bob

Only one. Welcome to the wonderful world of arthritis. But seriously–they are new drugs in development even as we speak. ;Maybe the next one will be the one for you. And just a thought–have you tried Glucosamine and Chondroiton? Its otc, but many have recieved benefit from it. Char Le Fleur

I noticed that when I was on vioxx also. Kinda reminded me of when my mom gets CHF….I’d get this little cough. Plus I was holding 6 extra lbs of water in the first week! Not good. Diane W. Orlando

Precisely why I am no longer taking Celebrex. I think I WAS going into CHF. Char Le Fleur
Response:
exactly Char! Both of those drugs made me miserable even for about a month after I stopped taking them. Actually, I’ve been taking excederine lately! Can’t take too much of it cause it will mess up the ole tummy but it certainly takes the edge off! I just need a little somthing to fill the gap that enbrel doesn’t touch. I’m nut sure they tested these well enough. First with Celebrex came the CHF warning, then with Vioxx the glaucoma warning….kinda scarey. Diane W. Orlando

The answer is—of course you are, silly. We all will eventually. Now to be a bit more specific. Celebrex does not cause CHF symptoms in everybody. It did, however, for me. And it probably isnt going to kill you. The treatment for Celebrex induced CHF symptoms is to stop taking the drug. If you start experiencing shortness of breath with little or no exercise, then stop the drug and get a hold of you RD ASAP. Char Le Fleur
