need to talk
Question:
I’ll keep you in me prayers, Lisha. — — Mike Just an old Texas Cowboy T2 Dx 7/99
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello, all, I’m not wanting to call it a vent, but more a talking out loud about what’s going on with me and diabetes. I was diagnosed T2 in 1995 but was able to handle it with diet alone. Now, 1999, it’s not being handled! Don’t have my numbers, but A1C was up and routine testing was up, so I’m now on Glucophage. Having lots of trouble with all of this. I have had FMS, CFS and MPS since 9 years of age (I’m now 56). I also have "bad" kidneys — one is very very small and both are scarred. It seems that the small kidneys are a family thing, as others in the family are also dealing with this. The scarring we’re less clear about, though some was probably from pyelonephritis as a teenager, and more was probably due to the NSAIDs that I had been on for some time (I’m now off of those permanently). Most recent ophtho exam shows rapidlly changing lense prescriptions (probably due to the FMS, etc.) and just slight elevations of pressure (beginning signs of glaucoma). Field of vision tests are fine at this point. And because of the FMS, et al., I’m in a wheelchair most of the time, which kaputs the exercise routine. Sometimes I go for days doing just what I’m supposed to (can’t low-carb completely because doc says that I have to get at least 1/2 of my calories from carbs in order not to overload the kidneys with protein). My numbers go along fine at that point. And then I get a flare from the FMS to the point that just thinking about food is hard work, let alone cooking and planning. I buy the right stuff, but go for days just grabbing food, not being cautious at all about what I eat. I have cut off all sweet snacks — donuts, carrot cake, chocolate, you get the picture. My son does our shopping, and he buys only what he and my other son will eat as snacks, and they keep them out of my sight of vision, which helps. So, today I’ve been crying all day… and having an H— of a time figuring out what I want to eat. I am arranging to get back into counseling, which should help immeasurably. Thanks for listening… Lisha
