Forskolin and Intraocular Pressure
Question:
I have taken 2 capsules of Forskolin Extract for six months. My eye pressure went from 27 to 20 in both eyes. The only OTHER thing I did differently was to simultaneously add New Vision’s Essential Minerals (3 T. daily) to my diet. I don’t know if my pressure was reduced by the Forskolin or because of other unknown factors. However, I’ve read that researchers at Yale and Hopkins had tested forskolin eye drops and found that while they lowered pressure, the side effects made it unusable in eye drop form. In his book and tapes, NUTRITION AND THE EYES, Bill Sardi suggests taking Forskolin by mouth in capsule form, and I decided to do so. I used the PhytoPharmica brand. Each capsule contains 50 mg standardized to contain 18% forskolin (9 mg per capsule). Prior to using the PhytoPharmica Brand, I tried the NaturesHerbs brand of forskolin for two months. This is a much weaker formula, and my eye pressure did not come down. An added benefit has been almost complete elimination of my migraine headaches with both the NaturesHerbs and PhytoPharmica brands. PhytoPharmica is the company that makes OsteoPrime for Osteoporosis. ——————-==== Posted via Deja News ====———————– http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Post to Usenet

Ejones inquires in response to Melinda: >Do you know of any references that describe the action of "Forskolin >Extract" in glaucoma cases? Has any research been done? Are there any >publications that would tell us whether this is something to consider<
I (not a professional) looked into Forskolin in 1983. There was an article in Lancet (I don’t have the date, but it was 1983 or earlier–you could probably find it by doing a Medline search), which was recommeded for my review by the Department of Ophthalmology at Yale University. It appeared to act by stimulating ciliary beta receptors. Evidently, it did not get broad acceptance. I also note that by the recent "standards", many would not seem to view the reduction to 20 mentioned in the first post as adequate.
