Blind spots from pred?
Question:
I have been at this dose for about 2 months. I have never before been on more than 40 mgs and never at that dose for longer than 1 week. This is new territory for me!! It turns out I am getting my eyes checked most likely on Tuesday as I am getting new glasses anyway. I also am going to call my GI on Jan 2 to discuss my vision episode. Unless of course I experience it again in which case I am going to emergency. Jason

UM MOM Susan 50 mg/day Jason: How many mgs of Prednisone were you on? My blind spot moved from the middle of my eyes to the periferal and I would also describe that as psychadelic splotches. Good description. It went away after about an hour or so. I am fine now. Jason i was on the web one time when i was on 60 mgs of prednisone. And I all of a sudden got psychadelic splotches in the middle of eyes. Twice, this happened. it’s from the dang prednisone. Yes you did. Contact your GI ASAP and let him know. An Eye dr should be checked into also. UM MOM Susan I have a blind spot in the centre of my vision this morning. It is like I looked at a light and it caused the blind spot, but I didn’t. Did I read somewhere this can happen as a side effect for pred? Anyone had this? I am also on 100 mg Immuran. Thanks, Jason
Response:
50mgs would do it. no wonder you’re seeing blotches. when you start weening down, the blotches should go away

Response:
You could be developing glaucoma from the pred. Get to an opthamologist as soon as possible and you should really consider going to emergency and tell them that you suspect prednisone induced glaucoma and that you have suddenly developed a blind spot. I am being treated for it and my opthamologist has told me to go to the ER if he is not available. Dear Jason: I know this is none of my business, and I only just now read this, but whereas this problem could very well be just "nothing with nothing", it could also be VERY serious. Please contact a doctor ASAP. Please let me know what happens, okay? Thanks. Love, Margie CD Class of 67 UC Class of 96

Jason, prednisone also gives "drug induced" diabetes. You are still making insulin, but the prednisone inhibits you *USING* the insulin. So as my doc explained it, they try and load up the insulin so you get enough…in my case I’m on metformin, glucontrol and lantus. The point is that this diabetes could be the casue of some vision problems so you might want to see an eye doc, just to be safe. — Regards, Jim Polaski "The measure of a man is what he will do while expecting that he will get nothing in return!"
