PUVA and glaucoma

Glaucoma is another matter. <Oscar from Italy Dear Oscar and everyone, I mentioned some time ago that I developed narrow-angle glaucoma (after having undergone PUVA treatments for 3 years, 3x a week).  While I went for eye testing every year as recommended by the derm, during the fourth exam, the eye doc discovered the "beginnings of cataracts as well as the development of the narrow-angle glaucoma."  I underwent the laser treatment for both eyes (absolutely painless, I might add).  After that, my derm decided it was "in my best interest" to discontinue the PUVA treatments lest we "exerberate the condition." While both the derm and the eye doctor agreed that the PUVA "could" have been a contributing factor to the cataracts, they were hesitant to say the glaucoma was.   I must say that because I was in my mid-40’s at the time, the eye doc said he "usually" didn’t see this type of glaucoma until people were much older!! Naturally, as with my pustular, palmar/plantar psoriasis, neither the psoriasis nor the glaucoma is a "family trait" (on either side). Suzy in California

Yes, UV light causes cataracts to form at an earlier age. Very important to wear good eye protection. Oh course, I had psoriasis on my eyelids once, not sure what you do in that case. Ray T.
