It has been taken from a section on the ‘Therapeutic Effects of Marijuana’. "It is also a treatment for glaucoma, a disease in which outflow of fluid from the eyeball is obstructed. A 1971 study by Helper and Frank had shown that smoking marijuana reduced intraocular pressure in normal subjects. Later studies showed that oral ingestion of delta9-THC, espeically when combined with conventional treatment of the eyedisease, reduces intraocular pressure in glaucoma sufferers (Helper, Frank, and Petrus, 1976)." Just for the record, delta9-THC is the major active chemical in marijuana. It is short for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. You should also look at the psychological and somatic effects of this drug as a balance to the therapeutic effects it has in some areas. REFERENCE: Davidson, G. C., & Neale, J. M.
