conjunctivitis HELP

Question:

hi all…what’s the best HOME medication for conjunctivitis.. We have already treated our kids with a tribiotic solution and augmentin… rob

Response:

Rob: what might work for a kid might lead to blindness in the cat.  Take the animal to the vet and get some antibiotic ointment like terramycin. Conjunctivitis in an animal that depends on keen eyesight is serious. Why take a chance on that happening just to save a few bucks? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – hi all…what’s the best HOME medication for conjunctivitis.. Don’t bother the bucks, take the cat to a vet. It doesn’t pay off to save a few bucks on the vet when the playmate of your kids is in danger of having impaired sight. Juergen w/ Rima ^,,^ und Lucy ^..^

Response:

You have given us very little information to go on. Have *you* diagnosed the conjunctivitis or were your kittens/cats at the vet? Has it been determined what type it is? Has it been determined whether there is viral involvement (possible herpes), whether the cornea is involved, whether the possibility of keratitis, uveitis, or glaucoma has been ruled out? There are many possible causes for eye redness and/or discharge, none of which should be dealt with via home remedies without a definitive diagnosis from a vet or a veterinary ophthalmologist. Also, since you have more than one kitten/cat affected, each may have a different level of involvement needing more or less aggressive and/or different treatment. Please do not delay having your kitties seen ASAP. Good luck, M.

Rob My baby had upper respiratory with symptoms of conjuctivitus.  Aside from anti-b’s, my vet said to make sure Rexy had lots of water, rest & food.  I put stuff from the vet in Rexy’s eyes which looked far more powerful than Poly-sporin or something like that.  I don’t think you should experiment with this. I say whatever the vet gives you is the best.  We use a BNPH ointment over here…. Kelly – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – hi all…what’s the best HOME medication for conjunctivitis.. We have already treated our kids with a tribiotic solution and augmentin… rob

Response:

There is no "home" treatment for this.  The treatment depends on what is causing the problem.  You need to get your "kids" to an ophthalmologist. They will make sure they get the correct treatment. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – hi all…what’s the best HOME medication for conjunctivitis..
