Cataracts & Glaucoma
Question:
Hi there Kea, My Name is Sherrie. I have a child who is 8 who was born with bilateral congenital cataracts and developed Glaucoma at age 3. Now at age 8, she has good vision, but has lost a lot of periphrial vision. Her last test showed a field vision of 30* and 20*. I would love to chat with you, about what you have been going through. Sherrie

Debbie: Have you seen a book titled; Save Your Sight, by Mark Rose, M.D. & Michael Rose, M.D. ? I can’t remember the publisher, but it is in print. Your local library may even have it.

Hi Kea My husband is having cataract surgury next week, he found out he had glaucoma about 10 years ago and lost all of his side vision, and almost all vision in one eye. He has had surgury already in this eye to relieve the pressure. Up until now it has done real well. I am trying to find out if anyone knows anything about nutrition that might help with glaucome. let me know if you have any information debbie

The combination of congenital cataract and glaucoma although rare is not unusual in terms of congenital abnormalities. Try posting this message to glauc…@egroups.com as at least one of its members is the moderator of a group called ‘young and under pressure’ which is specifically for people with congenital glaucoma. With kind regards — David Wright MSAE Chief Executive, International Glaucoma Association IGA Web Site – http://www.iga.org.uk/home.htm While we are pleased to offer the above information, it is not possible for the International Glaucoma Association to advise on an individual patient’s eye condition or treatment as this has to be the role of their own doctor or eye specialist who knows the full details of their particular case. Any comments above should therefore viewed as general observations. ———- In article <10105-38D11E6C…@storefull-267.iap.bryant.webtv.net>, VKLSm…@webtv.net (Veno & Kea) wrote: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Hello > Does anyone have Congenital Cataracts with your Glaucoma? Hello Does anyone have Congenital Cataracts with your Glaucoma? I do. I had 3 needleing surgeries when I was very young, giving me some sight. I developed Open Angle Glaucome about 5 yrs. ago. I am on Xalatan and Timoptic. My IOP’s run between 22-31. I would like to find others with low vision to start an alt.discuss.supportgroup. Thankyou Kea

Don’t take it lightly. When I was first diagnosed, I had pressure of 58 in my left eye. I was only 18 years old. I was too young to take it seriously and now that I am 30 I wish I would’ve known that glaucoma is such a serious disease. I would give anything to keep my pressure in the mid 20’s .. even another body part. Don’t let it get out of hand and trust one doctor. I’ve noticed that when I changed doctors they all had their own opinions on what should be done. When you find the right doctor, keep him and don’t change..Sincerely.
