Appetite problem
Question:
The only things pot regulates is eye pressure and nausea. This woman’s doctor was on something else. Oh well, it’s her business. BTW, I smoked before I was DM (30+ yrsago), during and occasionally. I tested before during and after. No differences. But, don’t forget the ‘munchies’. JayWesoff suffering depression. One of the women at the group has started using marijuana, with her physician’s consent, to see if it can regulate her blood glucose levels. Apparently there has been debate on this matter…some people believe that pot can regulate blood glucose? No one in the group (myself included) appeared to be shocked or offended by her medicinal marijuana therapy. I haven’t used the stuff in over 20 years and can’t imagine it having any effect other than getting someone high…that’s all I ever used it for in my fun days. Pete

Help needed. I am a very active 55 yr old, 6′, 165 lb IDDM. I have great difficulty keeping my weight up (and bg in line) because of lack of appetite.
You should get a referral to a gastroenterologist. You may have gastroparesis. It is digestive system slowdown caused by diabetic nerve damage. There are several medicines available which may help you. Rather than milkshakes, when you have no appetite for solid foods, you may want to consider not so sweet better balanced nutritive drinks like ChoiceDM or Glucerna. Do not start them without advice from your physician, dietician, or diabetic educator. They likely will be special order items from your pharmacist who likely will never have read or heard of them. Gastroparesis is underdiagnosed and cases can vary from mild to serious. Because food is digested in an unpredictable pattern it causes wide variations in blood glucose readings.
