Well by golly, Call me Mr. Negative

Question:

Danny, You tell Paul or who ever diagnosed me that he needs to be more careful about who he lets use his e-mail. I am amused, however, that you think he put me in my place. Now ya’ll are playing psychiatrist as well as eye doctor. Wouldn’t it be safer to diagnose someone who does not have extensive trainning in abnormal personality? Danny, I called you a little man for dismissing my predicament as your way of defending your friends for playing doctor on the newsgroup. Others have written me saying they too have been dismissed as nutcases because their symptoms do not conform to the sophomoric judgements of those who would be doctors.. on the internet. The thing is, there are probably thousands of people out there half scared out of their wits and afraid to ask for assistance because they see what awaits their naive questions and complaints… even though these be honest and to the point. I believe there is a newsgroup called sci.med.vision. Why not take up your medical debates on that group and allow alt.support.glaucoma be a place tolerant of us weaklings who still have emotions and uncertainty about why and what has happened to us? <01bd0a43$1d038b20$3a079…@chambers.roman.net>… Bill, I noticed that you forgot to mention to the group that you sent a very nasty, threatening private e-mail to Paul Risman, who quickly put you in your place. I, Danny shyan use the server at work. Paul’s name is on the server. I can tell you that he didn’t appreciate receiving an e-mail directed towards himself. You know which one I am referring to. If you suddenly received a sick, twisted e-mail from someone you didn’t know first thing in the morning, your response might have been the same as his. If you are entitled to your opinions, then certainly I am as well. Instead of asking for help..you opted to do nothing but be critical of the entire group. I simply stated that there was nothing but good advice available on these postings. I further mentioned that i was thankful for all of the great, helpful advice I received from many of the readers. I mentioned about how sad and frightened am I am sometimes. I further mentioned how scary it is to be in a position to be going blind. I answered your question and said that i do not have any of the symptoms you do and am not sure what might be wrong. In my first sentence, I said that I hope you find some medical help. I still can not believe that you would have the audacity to be critical of something that is only intended to provide helpful advice. Danny Shyan.

Them’s the ones that fall the hardest. ……..

It is and why not? It does nothing for us. One doesn’t have to have *any* real problem to dish out mush. Mush happens. I don’t happen to dig it. >I wonder how you will behave after spending a year in >total blind darkness.

Quit putting everyone in the same kicked bucket — with yourself? Only a fraction of persons with glaucoma reach total blindness. And quite a number without it do. >Probably the engineer "give em hell" attitude will >remain. But your typing will have gotten worse. You mean muck? Hell, you can always engage in self mutilation if you enjoy negative sensory experience. I’d rather climb a mountain or something. Ray

I just received the post I quote below from Paul Risman. I think it shows what awaits others who might see too little support in the alt.support.glaucoma group. I have received several other posts. Two have been very supportive. Both expressed symptoms similar to my own and both thanked me for my post. Perhpas there are more people like us out there, with unusual symptoms and a desire to share experiences with others. Two others have responded with technical information that I do appreciate. They felt the need for sarcasm or bitterness towards me as well. Well I am not damaged and I do not take back my criticisms. This group has plenty of room for ya’ll to discuss medications and prescribe treatments back and forth AND to encourage people to describe their experiences and anxieties AND to treat one another with more compassion. I am critical when I see people’s feelings being treated with the same cold, pseudo-medical treatment that I have seen personally from incompetent doctors. And as a critic and a big boy I can take the engineer bedside manner. I doubt that many others can and I speak for them as well as for myself. Many of you see yourselves as experts on having glaucoma. You distance yourselves from it by going technical and putting down the more personal approach as mushy or self indulgent. I wonder how you will behave after spending a year in total blind darkness. Probably the engineer "give em hell" attitude will remain. But your typing will have gotten worse. Maybe you will perhaps be a little less "hot shot " about it. In the mean time, show a gentler side for those people who still value experience. Bill "Listen William, I think that it is probably about time you checked back into the sanitarium. I think that your doctors should know that you have finally gone off the deep end. Oh by the way if you think Iam such a little man maybe we should meet so I cam stomp on your head" This article was posted from Slurp Net.
