HOw exciting…. Congratulations…….. I go for a vision field test in about 4-5 weeks, and have my pressure re-tested at that time too……  So far the medication they put me on <eye drops> has been fine, and no problem with any reactions to it. I hope I have as good a news as you did when I go….. Lynn

Dave asked: > would you mind telling us what  medication you have been using?<

Several asked this by email, and I sent them additional information. Since there has been quite a bit of interest, I’ll post a bit more, and caution all readers that I am not offering medical advice, since what I personally do could be harmful to someone else due to conditions they may have and/or medications they are using–only your doctors know what’s appropriate for you. Also, we don’t know at this time if these good readings will continue. I have used Timoptic .5% most of the time over around 15 years and pilocarpine .5% in the right eye part of the time. The pilocarpine started out at 2% four times a day and we worked down to .5% twice a day (minimizing the problem of dimming vision due to pupil constriction). HOWEVER, there seems to be more involved here than the medication as I have had substantially higher pressures on the same medication schedules. In brief, I’ve relied first on prayer, second on good professional care, then an excellent diet (computer checked), plenty of vitamin C, A, B12, (preferably all from dietary sources), magnesium, keeping my cholesterol down (avoiding hydrogenated products and using olive and other vegetable oils which are also good natural sources of vitamin E), keeping thyroid well nourished through dietary iodine containing foods (medicinal iodine is very dangerous), keeping my hemoglobin level up and blood cell size down, maintaining normal blood pressure (neither too high nor too low), keeping adrenal system healthy (including proper sodium and other electrolyte balance), getting plenty of exercise (running, etc.), avoiding sleeping with my eyes pressed into the pillow, avoiding eyestrain of every sort, proper fluid intake, avoiding allergy-causing substances. etc. This program also seems to contribute to good general health and no need for other medications. I’ve done quite a bit of study on this, and learned a great deal from this newsgroup–and I keep watching for new approaches which may be helpful. Best wishes to all.

Just did my six-month pressure test and it was 12 (right) and 11 (left). It got down to 12 a couple of years ago but has been mostly around 18 in between, so this was good news (especially since it was as high as 47 ten years ago or more plus there’s a  family history of glaucoma). Fortunately, I escaped having to have any surgery. Also did a field and that was fine, and vision 20/20 without glasses at age 66 (although reading small print is not all that great). Wanted to share the good news. Hope things continue this way and that at some point I can get off all medication.

Halterb, would you mind telling us what  medication you have been using?
