eye pain
Question:
Hi Carol, I myself get eye pains similar to your description but I’m on dilantin. I noticed the changes most after drinking lots of coffee at the office and none on the weekend. If the air pressure changes it gets even worse. I use to get really bad attacks that they would cause me to throw up when I was a kid. Have a look at your daily routine. I’ve found getting more sleep gets rid of it or watching a funny movie to get those endorphins flowing. Martin "Cargm" <ca…@aol.com> wrote in message

been on depakote for nearly 20 years, and I have NEVER had eye pain, but that doesnot mean a thing: call your doc, he can put your mind at ease… Denise Queens, NYC

Thank you all for your comments, I plan on following this up with my doctor. Carol

Hey all, I spoke with my Opthalmologist’s office today about my eye pain. They said that Glaucoma has no symptoms. It was suggested that it could be sinuses. I’ll be speaking with my Primary about it when I next see him. If necessary, I’ll go to my Opthalmoogist. Carol

Open angle glaucoma has no symptoms unless the pressures are exceedingly high. Angle closure glaucoma has severe eye pain, only relieved by lowering the pressure. When was the last time you had a thorough eye exam with a applanation tonometer pressure check? Sherry Glaucoma since 1996
Response:
Sherry, It’s probably been 2 years since my last eye exam. I’m not sure what the machine is called, but they did a Glaucoma check. Carol

g’day carol i am on the suspect list for glaucoma and each time i go to the ophthalmologist they test me with that machine which gives you a puff of air in the eyes, but afterwards the specialist also puts a yellow dye in my eyes and then focuses a blue light into my eyes, he said this was another way of checking the pressure. one day they had me coming in and out of his surgery every hour or so taking pressure readings to see if there was any difference at different times of the day. dave may have some info on this subject, have you checked his site? pablo "Cargm" <ca…@aol.com> wrote in message

Interesting that he would waste his time with the air puff before doing the applanation tonometry (the blue light). The air puff is notorious for giving high readings. The Goldman applanation tonometry is the standard and the readings are very accurate. IOP can vary through out the day and your ophth was probably checking to see if there were spikes in your pressure. that’s what i think they were looking for, to make sure the original diagnosis was not a false spike i guess. but each and every time i go into the surgery, the air puff test is the first thing they do, followed by the visual fields test and then whatever else they have planned. pablo – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Sherry > "pablo" <iancoffey…@bigpond.emu.com.au> wrote in > news:NV8o8.23106$uR5.49262@newsfeeds.bigpond.com: > > g’day carol > > i am on the suspect list for glaucoma and each time i go to the > > ophthalmologist they test me with that machine which gives you a > > puff of air in the eyes, but afterwards the specialist also puts a > > yellow dye in my eyes and then focuses a blue light into my eyes, he > > said this was another way of checking the pressure. one day they had > > me coming in and out of his surgery every hour or so taking pressure > > readings to see if there was any difference at different times of > > the day. dave may have some info on this subject, have you checked > > his site? pablo > > "Cargm" <ca…@aol.com> wrote in message > > news:20020326184558.20798.00000169@mb-mm.aol.com… > >> Sherry, > >> It’s probably been 2 years since my last eye exam. G’day carol i took epilim (sodium valproate), which is pretty much the same as depakote, for seventeen years with no problems to my eyes. when i had sabril added to the mix i was referred to an ophthalmic specialist for regular testing because it can effect peripheral vision and had 4 – 6 monthly visual fields checks. topamax and tegretol both have warnings for possible eye problems but these are rare, still i have maintained my program of regular testing for the near future as we gauge any changes these medications may cause. it goes without saying that just because i had no problem doesn’t mean the next person may not have an issue with a certain medication. pablo
