I have had my appointments for roughly the same time of day, every 3 months for the last 18 months, my pressure has risen steadily by 1 or 2 points per visit I am hoping that the higher pressure during my last visit was just a blip, but I don’t think so I’ll find out at the next visit which is 6 weeks this time, my ophthalmologist looking out for my health Chris On 26 Sep 1999 11:26:58 GMT, halt…@aol.com (Halterb) wrote: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->In a message to Joe, Chris mentioned that after being put on Xalatan his >pressure dropped from 18 to 11, but recently was found once again at 18. >I am curious to know if the pressure checks were done at the same time of day. >Pressure can vary as much as 20 points in some individuals at different times >of the day, and in some cases a significant variation can occur within a rather >short time period (like within an hour or less). Hi Joe Have been taking Zalatan for almost a year in both eyes at bedtime My normal pressure of about 18 was reduced to about 11 initially, minor side effects of the feeling of having grit in the eye immediately after taking it Over the months my pressure has crept back up to 18, as of my checkup last week, and now have no side effects…. Going back again in six weeks in case it was just a transient peak, hope it is otherwise we’ll be trying something else My Doc seems to think it is still working but my pressures have increased Chris – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -On Thu, 23 Sep 1999 16:46:05 -0400, "Joe Lockwood" <pi…@bellsouth.net> wrote: >I would appreciate hearing from anyone taking Xalatan as to the amount of >reduction in IOP and side effects. can——————————————- Thanks,  I am aware of the PDR information which is basically the manufacturer’s hype.  I was more interested in this users group experience and your comment about other medication in combination with xalatan is noted and a good point. Joe

* Joe:  Hi!  When you get your Xalatan drops, always look at the "package insert" (the small paper usually inside the little box — if not, ask the pharmacist for a copy). The package insert lists the results of clinical studies showing the average reduction in IOP as well as dosage, side effects, etc. I keep a copy on file of the package insert for every medication that I take, including eye drops and other drugs. earle *

I would appreciate hearing from anyone taking Xalatan as to the amount of reduction in IOP and side effects. Thanks. Joe

The pressure reduction with Xalatan is usually considered to be a little better that that achieved by timolol. The side effects can include a change in the colour of hazel eyes or those with mixed colour irises. Longer and thicker eyelash growth is also a recognised effect. In general this drops has a very low rate ot side effects. Various other side effects have been reported but these are generally very rare and many times reports here and elsewhere on the web are from people taking several medications which makes the identification of the problem element very difficult.
