Doctors can also benefit from reading the "inserts". It clearly states that during clinical trials "chest pain/angina pectoris" occurred at a rate of 1 to 2%. Joe
Response:
I’ve read the replies to Errol’s inquiry about a couple of types of eyedrops. Actually, the package insert is the easiest way to get the full story. You can find similar information in the Physician’s Desk Reference or the on-line sites. Regarding Xalatan, no one pointed out the possibility of permanent darkening of the eyelids (which would seem to be a very objectionable effect in the rare cases where it occurs) and the lack of information to date on where the increased pigments that change the iris color ultimately end up and what they might do–they simply say it’s not known. I also don’t find it comforting that the conclusions of high dosage effects on patients with bronchial problems were based on a study of a whole 11 people. Personally, I lean toward medications that have been around long enough to have a complete track record of good and bad effects. The side effects that ultimately turn up on newer drugs may well be unknown at the time the package inserts and reports are printed.
Response:
When I get my Xalatan prescription refilled, it comes in a small box with an insert that lists all the reported side effects. Personally, the only one that bothers me is the change in eye color — my girlfriend tells me that my hazel eyes have started turning brown. I guess I’ll live with that — balanced against my eyesight, eye color comes up short. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -"Errol J. I am a glaucoma suspect who was placed on Xalatan — just in case I have glaucoma. I experienced a severe allergic reactions which included hyperactivity, shortness of breath and angina. Since I am young and in good health, I had never experienced these symptoms before. My family physician verified that I had a reaction to the Xalatan. The drug company likes to emphasize the change in eye color, etc., however buried deep in their fine print there are references to these reactions.

Hello. I am allergic to all medications containing sulpha as well as most preservatives. Should you need to use Pilocarpine or Timoptic its is available in individual dosages preservative free. It can can also be made by a Pharmacy with a Lab. So far I am able to use Xalatan and Alphagan. After that, lets hope Medical Marijuana will be available to the few of us who will have no other options. Good luck, Helga

Here is a site you can go to: http://www.planetrx.com/product/rx/drug_lib.asp?try=1#X It is probably more than you want and I am sure there are similar sites. You can look up almost any drug and then click on side effects, warnings, drug interactions, etc. I would assume that the information is extracted from the drug manufacturer’s "inserts". Identifying the cause of a symptom is not always easy and some people suffer far more diverse and severe reactions to a given medication than others so the following comments cannot be considered a definitive list, rather they represent the more common problems associated with the drops. Dorzolamide 2% eye drops (Trusopt) Dorzolamide drops appear to be free from local problems excpet for some stinging on application and occasional local allergic reactions, although rarely corneal endothelial impairment has been reported. There may also be a bitter taste at the back of the throat due to passage down the tear duct. The undesirable side effects encountered with other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors taken by mouth or injection appear to be absent or slight. Latanoprost 0.005% eye drops (Xalatan) Xalatan drops may cause some local stinging and a feeling that there is ’something in the eye’ during the first few days of use and it may cause an allergic reaction and itching in and around the eyes. Its most noticeable long term effect is an irreversible gradual change of the itis colour in eyes with a light or mixed colour, to brown. This appears to be quite innocuous but may not be cosmetically acceptable to an individual patient. It is also reported that Xalatan may stimulate eyelash growth. Hope this helps. — David Wright MSAE Chief Executive, International Glaucoma Association IGA Web Site – http://www.iga.org.uk/home.htm While we are pleased to offer the above information, it is not possible for the International Glaucoma Association to advise on an individual patient’s eye condition or treatment as this has to be the role of their own doctor or eye specialist who knows the full details of their particular case. Any comments above should therefore viewed as general observations. ———- In article <7v0n8s$8b…@newsource.ihug.co.nz>, "Errol J.
