Can’t remember the source, but I once read of studies indicating such a correlation. My blood pressures have been in the same range as yours during my entire adult life, and I was diagnosed with glaucoma years ago. My mother and her mother also were diagnosed with glaucoma and also had life-long blood pressures in this range. (Guess they should be doing a study on MY family!)

Hi, I would like to know if anyone has heard of low blood pressure increasing IOP and/or visual field loss. My blood pressure ranges from 100/68 and 102/70. At my recent doctors appt today my pressure in my left eye was 16 and my right eye 16. My doctor wants to get the pressure down to low teens (10). I have gone through so many drops and my pressure fluctuates. Recently I stopped taking the Timoptic and continued with the Trusopt, Alphagan and Xalatan. Now I am back on the Trusoopt. Beta Blockers make me nervous. Anyway, any feedback on low blood pressure and glaucoma. Also, it appears that taking this many eye drugs could have a negative effect on glaucoma treatment.

– I am absolutely flabbergasted that any ophthalmologist would have you on three glaucoma medications in the attempt to get your IOP from 16 down to ten. Unless of course, you have some significant glaucomatous cupping or scotoma. I fight to get my IOP from 30 down to 20! earle (I am an engineer, not a physician.) — __ __/_ /_/_/ /_/_ earle /_/ jones Want to get rid of Spam? See http://www.cauce.org

Hi Patricia; Dr. Robert Ritch responds that Low blood pressure has been associated with visual field progression in low-tension glaucoma in 4 papers now. Patients who take antihypertensive medications at bedtime are particularly susceptible. We don’t know what to do for patients who don’t take antihypertensives but whose BP bottoms out to 70/50 or 60/40 in the middle of the night. It might be worth her getting 24-hour BP monitoring. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Patricia Hendrix <phend…@prs-associates.com> wrote: >Hi, I would like to know if anyone has heard of low blood pressure >increasing IOP and/or visual field loss. There is quite a bit written about low blood pressure’s being a factor in glaucoma. However, all the worry and variety of drops in respect to pressures of 16 is probably quite out of line unless something else critical is known. Ray (not health-care practitioner but have glaucoma)
