Laser Surgery Questions
Question:
About a year ago, I was diagnosed with open angle glaucoma in my right eye. Right eye IOP before nightly drop of betagan was 31. With drop, it’s now down to 21 or so. Left eye is fine. Anyway, my opthamalogist is considering performing laser surgery on the right eye. She has explained to me that this is not a cure but a related part of my treatment. My questions are: (1) is the surgery painful and are there any side effects?; (2) Is it the type of thing where I can have it done on my lunch hour and then return to work? and (3) will I have to have it done every few years like I read? I have experience: it’s relatively painless and there are no side effects. > (2) Is it the type of >thing where I can have it done on my lunch hour and then return to work?
Conceivably, but why? Your vision in the affected eye will likely be blurred due to all of the manipulation involved (drops, lenses etc.). Take the day off. >(3) will I have to have it done every few years like I read?
FWIW, my left eye was done three years ago and the pressure has been quite stable since. I had my right eye done yesterday, as a matter of fact. — Tom

So, what do you think that nice, catchy little phrase means? Is it a related part of her income? If you have no loss of sight, why is it you, she or anyone else thinks the procedure is necessary when you have an IOP of only 21 on that side?
