Just Found OUt I have Glaucoma

Question:

Thank you so much, and I will definitely check it out….. Lynn

Response:

Lynn,      I know it’s a shock, but try not to feel devastated.  I had the same experience about 23 years ago, and I can still see pretty good (20-20 with glasses).      The main thing is to relax (ancient Chinese proverb: "Take every emergency leisurely") and attack the problem systematically and logically.  Find a doctor in whom you have confidence, listen carefully to what he or she says, take all meds as prescribed — and don’t go buying a white cane with a red tip just yet! Remember, there probably is no need for rushing about and worrying.  In glaucoma, most things happen very slowly over time, which gives one plenty of opportunity to do things right.     Best wishes to you!     Don Singleton – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -SAHM2Three wrote: > Hi all: > Just found out 2 days ago that I have open-angle glaucoma…. Lynn, It is good you found out that you have this condition so your eye doctor can help prevent any future loss. Eye drops to control high eye pressures can be very effective. If you are interested in looking at alternative approaches to helping treat glaucoma, in conjunction with your tradtional treatment, please see the glaucoma section of my website (look under Eye Diseases). The URL is http://www.visionworksusa.com We believe that it is possible to get to the root of the problem naturally, and enjoy working with other doctors to work on eventually reducing or even eliminating the need for medication. Good luck. Dr. Marc Grossman

Lynn,    I had the same ’shock’ happen to me two years ago (i.e. open angle glaucoma).    My pressures were at 26/28. My optho prescribed Betagan (one drop in each eye morning and nite).  For two years my pressure has stabilized at 14/16 and no sign of nerve damage.    Just be sure to get the proper drop in your eye (for me it was difficult to do at first — I get blinking).  Ensure you press a finger in the inside corner of each eye to prevent your medication from being drained away before it does any good. -Mel

Dear Don: Oh thank you so much for those nice words and for the information on yourself….  I t is very comforting to know it isn’t "instant" so I will have to put my cane order on hold for the time being.. <grin> I’m beginning to feel somewhat better about it in al actuality.. My Mom says there is no history on her or our Dad’s side of the family that she knows about, so it was just something that happened to me… I’ve got a great doctor with whom I have great confidence.. He is the best in our area, and is well known for his conservative and best for the patient attitude….  He is great and has been my doctor for many years….He takes care of the whole family,s o I’m going to rely on him….. I’m taking my drops like prescribed, and actually am not bothered at all by them, so that is great.. I’m watching my iris though I hear they change colors, and am actually sorta interested in what color they might change into.. hehehehe But I am relaxing, and trying to follow ancient Chinese profit.. <grin> Tahnks again for the great words and for sharing your story…. Lynn
