I'm home!

Question:

Hi Peg — Just a quick note to y’all to say I’m now out of the rehab hospital, doing more recuperating at home.

So, you’ve had a "stroke experience," eh?  I had something similar in Oct 96. Went to a local shopping center.  After I arrived, parkem my car, when I started into it, my left side ( arm, face ) devloped some minor pain. When I went home, later that day, my wife told me my speach was slurred.  Of couse, this happened on a weekend, so Monday, I called my former internist, who recommended a Dr in a local hospitol who set me up for OT, PT and ST.  Went, as outpatient, to the hospital for two-three months, where they gave me the therapies.  My left side is *still* weak, and of course, it’s my dominant side.  <g  What with my popliteal pedal bypass graft, and my gangreous right big toe amputated in May 97, my getting around is quite slow, these days.  My biggest problem is the glaucoma of my rigth eye ( latest IOP = 29, normal < 20, highest, some months before = 42 ).  My vision is my biggest problem, now. Hope my current eye drops ( Timoptic, Alphagan ) work.  Betoptic just quit on me.  8-( I just don’t even think about that "minor" stoke I had a year and a half ago. <g John Huff, Dayton OH ( type 1, dx @ 18 months, now 61 )

Just a quick note to y’all to say I’m now out of the rehab hospital, doing more recuperating at home. Thank you to all who sent cards or called me, etc… you really brightened my days. The stroke wasn’t too terribly bad – just lost usage and sensation of right (my dominant, of course!) leg/foot, arm/hand, and face/mouth …. no cognitive skills were damaged, thankfully.  I’m now walking with the aid of a brace and quad-cane.  Arm is getting better, have some practical uses for my R hand besides as a paperweight!  Can tie my own shoelaces with just my left hand – it amazes the therapists and doctors.  Speech was barely affected, just a heavy feeling in the cheek that is subsiding daily…. I slur a bit when I am tired, that’s all.   I must say the rehab hospital I was in was absolutely wonderful. Love ya all, Peg (grateful to be reunited with her computer) — I’m an American.  I used to live in England.  Now I’m back! remove "ANTISPAM" from my email address
