Thanks for the reply. Could you please elaborate on why Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors are less safe. What are ocuserts? > pooh…@hotmail.com wrote: > >My husband and I are thinking about having children and I am concerned about > >what affects my glaucoma medication would have on the fetus. My husband and I are thinking about having children and I am concerned about what affects my glaucoma medication would have on the fetus. I am currently on Cosept which my doctor says he wouldn’t leave me on if I decide to get pregnant. The pressure in my left eye is usually between 16-18 on the Cosept. What glaucoma medications are considered "safer" for pregnant women and their babies? I have pigmentary glaucoma in both eyes (I no longer take any drops in my right eye) but no other health problems. Ocuserts are a small disk that one places under the eyelid. They gradually release pilocarpine. This method of delivery eliminates side effects and the necessity of dosing numerous times daily. I believe that one ocusert lasts for a week. Many people prefer them. I never got over the feeling of having something foreign in my eye. Dr. Ritch responds that oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors caused teratogenic abnormalities in mice when given early in pregnancy. Never shown in humans. All theoretical. Ray Bonar
