field of vision

Question:

so today I had an eye test called a "field of vision" test. The pressure in my eyeballs is at the high end of normal, and there’s some kind of…thing with my optic nerve that is normal with nearsightedness, but the high pressure plus the…optic nerve thing made them want to test for glaucoma. I freaked at first but at this stage they treat it with eyedrops, no biggie at all. Anyway, they flashed a little white light around a big white bowl-like thing and I clicked on a clicker when I saw it. And my vision is really good, field-of-vision-wise. Which is good news, isn’t it?

Judith, everything they have said and done sounds exactly like what has happened to me. Plus, it runs in my family. So, the specialist has me on eye drops which keep the pressure down. For me, it is no more than a nuisance to put in the drops and have appointments with the specialist periodically. Stan – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – judith

Which is good news, isn’t it? Yes it is. As a matter of fact I had the same thing done to me yesterday. Didn’t miss one flash, I was told. Good to have healthy eyes. I’ve astigmatism and myopia. Long eyes with stretched out retinas. No tears yet! Ed And if you ever DO get retinal tears, they can be stitched…zap…just like that!

Really? Wow. Fred, who is a diabetic, went for his usual eye check and a tiny tear was found and stitched up right there! This amazes me because I, too, am severely myopic and have lived in fear of retinal detachment. I also started teaching many years ago in a residential school for partially-sighted children and saw a child sneeze and lose the sight in one eye, just like that. And at that time, nothing could be done… If I liked how I look without glasses, I could even have laser surgery now  to correct my myopia. What I wouldn’t have given for that option when I was a kid and wore thick "bottle-glass" spectacles….

Or just the thinner lens option. It wasn’t so long ago I could start fires with my lenses. I did ask about laser surgery and they said sure, but if you’re expecting 20/20 vision – forget about it. Ed
