Question:
My doctor has had me on Betoptic S and Lumigan for years and on my last visit I told him both eyes were very itchy and he said it was probably an allergic reaction to the amount of pollen etc.in the air. He prescribed Albanon-A drops and I used them for a day before I noticed in the enclosed pamphlet that they were not to be used with Glaucoma. I stopped using them and my itchiness cleared up without help. I don’t see the doctor for another three months, should I tell him beforehand? Bob J.
Response:
Hi, I saw your comment about the eyedrops(spelled Albalon-A?) your doctor prescribed for you. It wouldn’t hurt to mention that fact to your doctor.

It’s not particularly important. He’ll say, "Great…just keep using your glaucoma drops and stay off the allergy drops." Incidentally, the risk with topical antihistamines for allergy is typically only seen in patients with narrow angles. If you are one of the many out there with primary open angle glaucoma, allergy drops shouldn’t be a problem…check with your doctor whether you have deep or narrow angles. –Rick Cohn, MD Glaucoma Specialist Winter Park, FL
