visual impairments and glaucoma

Question:

Marsha, I am 60 and blind in right eye and glaucoma in both eyes. I use Timoptic daily. I have only been this way a year so I have little experience like your daughter. I am willing to chat with you any time. Bernie Sadowski

Response:

I have been following this group for several months now, and have enjoyed learning so much about the medical aspects of glaucoma.  My daughter has lost roughly  120 degrees of her field, while her acuity’s have become better and more stable, and her pressures are stable.  I am interested in hearing from some people about the kinds of challenges that low or reduced vision creates in your lives and how you all deal with it. I watch on a daily basis her, mis-identification of people and objects, I watch her trip, stumble and fall, I watch her struggle to read print that is too small, I watch people reject her, and avoid her.  I see kids at school who see her coming, and have learned that if they stand very still,  and don’t talk that she will probably walk by them and not know they are there.  I’m interested in hearing if any of you experience(d) these kinds of things and how has adult life been.   Thanks, Marsha. — To e-mail us , please remove "X"s from address
