Did your progression of loss of vision stop soon after the "normalization" of the pressure? Ray

Response:

Hello,       my name is graham,am 44yo and i had my eyes tested this morning (had bifocal glasses prescribed)and also had a test for glaucoma as my mother was 70% blind by the time i was 14 – 90% by  the time i was 30. My iop was 28 in one eye-24 in the other. After a field of vision test at another optometrist later today(apparently showing gaps in my vision)the iop was 24 and 19.I’ve been refered to a specialist in 2 weeks time. I can’t tell you how worried i am as my mother did not cope very well and feel i will cope even less. Sorry, but i’m a bit confused and very scared.

Graham,    The numbers are a little high and I can not really comment on loss. I have not heard of a great deal of or any loss with numbers that low but I am not a doctor.    Go to the doctor and do what you are told and it should be okay. Mine started at 58/54 and after meds it has been mostly normal for 22 years. I am 21 and was diagnosed with Glaucoma just over a year ago.  I was primarily concerned do to loss of sight but also that I am statistically very young for having glaucoma.  Although after speaking with my doctor I found that there are many treatments to Glaucoma now a days.  Now that you have discovered the condition you will have many options and I am sure one will alow you to continue seeing at your present level.  Take care and listen to your eye care professional.  And good luck >Hello, >      my name is graham,am 44yo and i had my eyes tested this morning >(had bifocal glasses prescribed)and also had a test for glaucoma as my >mother was 70% blind by the time i was 14 – 90% by  the time i was 30. >My iop was 28 in one eye-24 in the other. After a field of vision test at >another optometrist later today(apparently showing gaps in my vision)the >iop was 24 and 19.I’ve been refered to a specialist in 2 weeks >time. >I can’t tell you how worried i am as my mother did not cope very well >and feel i will cope even less. >Sorry, but i’m a bit confused and very scared.
