Momentary Blurriness/Foggy Vision
Question:
I have had MS for about 15 years now. I had one episode of optical neuritis several years ago in my right eye, all of the vision returned, but a scar remains. A few months ago I experienced some very strange things with my left eye. I am now partially blind in my left eye. I had pain and blurriness and then most of the vision disappeared in that eye. I rushed to an opthalmologist believing that I was having another attack of optical neuritis. He sent me right away to a neuro-ophthalmologist. After many hours of waiting (he is one very busy dr.) and lots of tests he informed me that I had had a stroke in my left eye and part of the vision would never return. He put me on prednisone and some vision did come back within a few weeks but my peripheral vision is gone. Unfortunately I still don’t know what caused all of this. Some mention was made of Glaucoma, but not for sure, and after many tests, there did not seem to be any reason for blood clots or embolii, vascular disease was also mentioned. My neurologist (who I also went to see) told me I do not have vascular disease, I have MS; but he also found the happenings to be strange and not typical of MS. I have another appointment with the first ophthalmologist in about a month. I hope he can give me some answers. I value my sight and I’m afraid to lose more of it. Concerning your comments on Optometrists versus opthalmologists. I have to agree. I went to my optometrist when all the above started to happen. He could not find anything wrong with my eyes, but that was before the major blurriness happened. I wonder if I had gone to an ophthalmologist first if I could have stopped the vision loss from happening.
