luxated lenses
Question:
You can find some information about luxated lenses at: www.interlog.com/~eyevet/info.html Hope this helps.
Response:
Does anyone else have any information on this disease. i have a welsh terrier who has luxated lenses and glaucoma. apparently luxated lenses are a heriditary disease but i have little information on it. please e-mail.thanks
I’m afraid I don’t know much more about it either. My 9 yr old Brittany was diagnosed with it a few months back. They were worried he would develop glaucoma in that eye, but so far hasn’t. The other eye is developing cataracts. All I know is that the lens has popped out "luxated" from its normal position. His eye has a white, filmy look to it. I asked the vet if it was hereditary and he said no. (the reason I asked is that my poor fella has a lot of other hereditary health problems) A well-known Britt breeder said it could be or caused by trauma. And I know he hasn’t suffered any sort of trauma. Sorry I couldn’t help more. Hopefully someone else our there will have more info and pass it along for both of us. — Michelle Campbell N-Vee Brittanys American Brittany Rescue in Virginia

Hi Jack, If you haven’t made an appointment with the veterinary ophthalmologist, you probably should. The dislocated lenses can plug up the drainage field inside the eye, and fluid can build up, resulting in pain and permanent blindness (glaucoma). It’s likely that he/she will recommend removing the loose lenses. The weakness of the fibers which hold the lenses in place is considered inheritable, and some breeds are more prone to it. Just also wanted to tell you about this resource, should you need something like this. It contains a detailed discussion of glaucoma. — "Living With Blind and Low-Vision Dogs" the book http://www.teleport.com/~dlevin Holler if you have any questions. Kindest regards, Caroline
