Christi, I have only limited knowledge, but what I know is that the optic nerve, where it comes into the back of the eye can have what they call cupping. A large cup I don’t think is great so they check the cupping of the nerve in my daughter’s eyes once or twice a year, maybe more. So ask the doctor about cupping of the nerve, and contact your local non-profit (state name) Association for the Blind. Their educators are just terrific here where we live. My experience has been to research and build networks of knowledgeable people to help our lives maintain sanity! Good luck.. Keep in touch. Marsha. — To e-mail us , please remove "X"s from address

Hi Christi: Dr. Robert Ritch responds that low tension glaucoma in someone 24 years old is practically unheard of. He suggests that you get a second opinion from a glaucoma specialist. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -stokely <stok…@frii.com> wrote: >I just found out today at the eye doctor that I could have low tension >glaucoma. I just found out today at the eye doctor that I could have low tension glaucoma. She said that the pressure in my eye is normal, but that the tissue of my optic nerve is deteriorating (or something like that). I took a test that measured my peripheral vision and I did OK on that, but I need to go back in 6 months to see if there is any change. I’m pretty freaked out about this. I know glaucoma can make you go blind, but I don’t really know anything else about it. I’m only 24, is that rare in people so young? She also said my nerve was .7, or the hole in it was about 70%. Is that bad? I would welcome any information! I know nothing! Christi
