Good news on eye appt.

Question:

Hi there,  it’s been awhile since I posted.  I got out of habit while on vacation in August.  At the present time I am not having to much problem with my eyes, but it is time for a check up.  I wear glasses and feel that the check up I had last year with an optometrist just did not do any good.         I spoke to my neuro the first of this week and he referred me to a good neuro-ophthalmologist at the Dean A McGee Eye Inst here in Okla. City.  I am hoping that this MD will be better equipped at handling eye related MS problems and suggest what to do about glasses and balance problems.           My appointment is the l6th of this month.  The letter I received from this MD said that I should make about 3 hours time for her to see me.  It should be interesting to say the least.  Wish me luck.         Love Judy R.

I didn’t know there were such things – have we got any in UK and if so, where are they located? Helen W:)

Judy, I just spent an hour and a half at the opthamologist yesterday trying to rule out MS issues with my vision.  Besides a normal eye check up, which showed my perscription had not changed, they ran a Field of Vision test.  It was an interesting series of tests to determine your peripheral vision and regular vision. He ran several glaucoma tests and checked for cataracts.  Bottom line is the haze I am seeing through is realted to a fungus medication I’ve been taking. I stopped the med and the haze is lifting. Hi Judy, You will be glad you have a neuro-opthamalogist.  They are Much more intune with MS and its visual symptoms! Since I started seeing one, I use him for any prescription changes as well as the usual opthamalogist stuff, but they Look Deeper for the Optic Disc and Nerves. Also my symptoms presented with eyeball pulling and achiness, and he diagnosed a "convergence weakness" which was a result of the MS and fatigue in the eye muscles.  a Regular opthamalogist would never have seen that unless it was OBVIOUS to the Naked EYE! Hi Judy! I feel very lucky that my regular opthamologist sent me to a neuro opthamologist when he saw nystagmus.  On top of that, the neuro opthamologist was head of the health plan, so he was able to get me an MRI the same day he saw me and pushed the other departments to get me verification with other neurologists. Good for you that you get to go!  This man I saw was incredible! Lots of luck to you.. Hugs, Patti
