Question:

Robin-       Bring sunglasses and have transportation home!! I hope I’m not too late. Good luck!                                                             Gary

Response:

As others have written, the eye test is nothing to be worried about. The blurred vision after having your eyes dialated may make you uncomfortable driving so take someone with you to drive. My doctor doesn’t use the air puff anymore to detect glaucoma.  He has a device that measures pressure without it.  I like it better because I usually blink the instant the air puff would hit my eye and it had to be done again. Good luck to you. Bob

I have an intial appointment tomorrow for a diabetic retinopathy exam. Has anyone ever had one ? Really am not having any eye problems. Am a 68 yr old type 2 . Would appreciate any advice charlie

In other words…the exam is no different than a regular eye exam. Mine was a cinch! — Sue on the Oregon Coast (Type II)

Charlie: I have had that exam annually for several years.  It is a simple thing. After your eyes are dialated, the doctor shines a light into your eye, and looks through a lens at the back of your eye.  He looks for damage to the small blood vessels in the back of the eye. Don’t sweat this test.  It is less painful than the finger stick for BG testing. I have an intial appointment tomorrow for a diabetic retinopathy exam. Has anyone ever had one ? Really am not having any eye problems. Am a 68 yr old type 2 . Would appreciate any advice charlie

Not a great deal to worry about First reading letters on a wallchart Then there are circles in red and green squares and you say which is the clearest when different filters are added Then its count the tiny  lights within a cabinet without moving your head to test your peripheral vision Then a little air is blown into each eye to test pressure to detect glycoma (I believe) The worst part for me was when a solution is dropped into your eyes (not painful) but after about ten minutes your eyes go all blurred and its difficult to focus properly  - this is so the optometrist can see the back of the eye You think it strange that your eyesight is fine when you come in but going out your eyesight is much poorer…hehe But luckily this effect goes after a couple of hours All in all no worries You will be fine — PRoToCoL <—
